Soulfly "Ritual"

So we've received two new offerings from Soulfly, "Ritual" and "Evil Empowered". I got to say I wasn't too impressed with the last two albums and I felt they were starting get the lines confused between being soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy. Now with the teste of these two songs we see Soulfly putting the balance back in Groovey riffs and fast thrashing parts.
One of the surprising things about this latest offering being the 11TH STUDIO album from Soulfly is the lack of rehashing of old material. Yes, they do have the same sound just about as when Soulfly 1 dropped. But it is in no way a doppelganger or a band trying to sound like itself. I really do like the flair added by guitarist Marc Rizzo and his leads mesh perfectly with Max's rhythms.
On "Ritual" we get rhythms reminiscent of Prophecy or Back to The Primitive era songs. But the song is so much more than that. The beatdown grooves in this song and "Evil Empowered" are probably some of the heaviest I've heard from them. I really feel this album is going to be great. But we'll see soon enough.

Ritual is released on October 19, 2018.

Behemoth "GOD=DOG"

So Behemoth finally drops a new song and I couldn't be more excited. To me this track is an evolution of the band's sound further. To some, they think the song was a disappointment. To others it was just a mash up of Evangelion and The Satanist and rehashed material. To them I say, FUCK YOU!

There are a lot of layers to this track. One of the key points I feel is Nergal's voice. On the Satanist, there was this fire in his shouts and growls. Way more anger and a demand for him to be heard. The thing I do like about his vocal stylings is that he really does sound more evil than ever and he isn't relying on a ton of over dubs. This is deeper then that.

Next key point is Inferno. His drumming is too notch and honestly, he makes little things go a long way. His use of the snare roll to be precursor to chaos was amazing to me. A simple roll equates such a huge part. It was like I told a buddy of mine, "he's controlling chaos". One little roll and boom! Blasting at the speed of light. It's just awesome.

Seth's moody lead, albeit short and sweet it was really a great touch. I know we'll hear way more from him and Nergal when the album is released. I also really liked the way they used the boys choir. It wasn't the usual scary eerie little kids singing a song but the fact that they were shouting the Prayer and denouncing Jesus Christ was just nuts. People will be bothered and others will hate it. But seriously, who else has the balls to do that?? I'll wait...still nothing?...ok....time's up.
